For a straightforward evening routine, a small amount of face oil after moisturizer is a useful starting point. Apply water-based skincare first, then moisturizer, then a fine finishing layer of oil if your skin welcomes it.
This is a practical sequence, not a universal rule for every formulation. Follow the directions on your products, and follow your clinician's instructions for prescribed treatments.
Why the sequence matters
A routine feels easier to use when each step has a purpose. Cleansing removes what needs to come off. Water-based skincare and moisturizer come next. An oil can then provide a finishing layer that softens the feel of the skin.
BIO SPECTRA's current face oil directions place the oil after water-based skincare. A face oil is optional: if your existing routine already feels comfortable, you do not need to add another step simply to complete a sequence.
A simple evening application
- Cleanse gently. Avoid scrubbing the skin in preparation for an oil.
- Apply your usual water-based skincare. Keep to products your skin already tolerates.
- Apply moisturizer. Let it spread evenly over the skin.
- Finish sparingly with face oil. Press a small amount over the areas where you enjoy additional softness, avoiding the eyes.
The American Academy of Dermatology recommends applying moisturizer while skin is still damp and choosing a cream or ointment for dry skin. If dryness persists, seek a dermatologist's advice rather than repeatedly adding more oil. Read the AAD's dry-skin guidance.
How much oil should you use?
Start with the smallest amount that spreads comfortably. Drop size varies between dispensers, so a fixed number of drops will not suit every bottle or face. A light film is a better starting point than a wet coating.
If your skin feels heavily coated, reduce the quantity next time. If products roll into small flakes, simplify the layers and review their instructions rather than adding more product.
What changes in the morning?
Keep the oil layer light if you choose to use one, and follow with sunscreen as directed. Do not mix your oil into sunscreen. For sun protection, the AAD recommends broad-spectrum, water-resistant SPF 30 or higher alongside shade and protective clothing. See the AAD guidance.
Choosing your BIO SPECTRA oil
For individual botanical oils, compare Camellia, Rosehip and Pomegranate in ESSENTIALS. For blended, aromatic formulas, explore the PRIVÉ guide.
Introduce one new product at a time, patch test before first use and stop if irritation develops. A comfortable routine should be straightforward enough to repeat.
